Junaid Hashim Mehmood was arrested hours after police found the three children -- including an infant girl -- shot to death in a Texas City apartment, the television station reported. The other two children included a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, the Texas City police said in a news release.

The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head, the Houston Chronicle reported. She is in stable condition, Texas City police spokesman Lt. Kenneth Brown told the newspaper.

The woman and children were found around 6:15 p.m. KTRK reported. Four hours later, Mehmood called 911 and identified himself as the man sought by police, the Chronicle reported.

Investigators said he was "incoherent," emotional and yelling at times, and that he confessed to dispatchers, "I killed my family," according to KTRK.

Mehmood gave his address, said he was unarmed and waited for police to arrest him, the newspaper reported.
