Warren Davidson was sworn in as the region’s newest member of Congress Thursday and will fill the remainder of the term of former House Speaker John Boehner.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., a 1992 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, conducted the swearing in on the House floor before hundreds of lawmakers. It was the first time Ryan has sworn in a new House member.

A few minutes earlier, Ryan met with Davidson and his family in an ornamental office just off the House floor. Ryan and Davidson talked about Notre Dame, where Davidson earned an MBA
Davidson, a Miami County Republican, won his seat in a special election for the 8th Congressional District Tuesday and will serve for the remainder of Boehner’s term, which expires in January.
Davidson still seemed mind-boggled by his victory. “Surreal is the only word I can use to describe it,” he said.
The conservative Republican outlined ambitious plans for his term, saying “the first bill” he plans to introduce will be requiring all members of Congress to have the same health benefits provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Davidson said lawmakers would quickly discover the VA benefits are not adequate.
Davidson – a former Army Ranger – personally witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
Davidson won his district with nearly 77 percent against Democrat Corey Foister and Green Party member James Condit. He will represent Butler, Clark, Miami, Preble, Darke and part of Mercer counties.
Davidson and Foister will run against each other in November for the next full term starting in January 2017.
