A high-tech manufacturing firm with a facility in Springfield is looking to hire more than 100 employees and will be holding a drive-thru job fair in September.

Silfex is looking to fill open positions at its manufacturing facilities in Eaton and Springfield. In order to find more candidates, the company will be hosting a jobs event at the Preble County Fairgrounds in Eaton on Sept. 2.

Representatives of Silfex said this is first time that they will be hosting a drive-thru job fair and decided to do the event in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The goal is to find candidates to fill open positions at both of the company’s locations.

“We decided to host the drive-thru event as a way to follow social distancing and prioritize health and safety,” said Kate Seegraves, a spokesperson for the company

Stephanie Parks-Gale, the director of human resources for Silfex, said that she did not have an exact number of open positions at the company’s facility in Springfield. But, she added, that there are currently plans to have up to 400 workers at that site by 2022.

Currently, Silfex employees about 200 people in Springfield. That facility became operational in 2018 and since then representatives of the company have pledged to gradually grow its workforce there.

Seegraves said that current openings pertain to an overall demand for services in the tech market, especially as companies began shifting more towards remote work opportunities.

“We are at the front end of the production process that leads to technology such as smart devices,” Seegraves said.

Silfex creates precision components used to make and operate semiconductor tools. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lam Research and has the world’s largest custom silicon growing facility.

The company’s manufacturing plants have remained open throughout the coronavirus pandemic. However, representatives of the company stated that they have added additional safety measures during that time.

Open positions at both of its facilities include machinist, maintenance techs, manufacturing techs and engineers.

Those who wish to participate in the job fair on Sept 2. are asked to bring two copies of their resume and the process is expected to take 20 to 30 minutes. Those who fit the company’s qualifications will be scheduled to attend a follow up virtual interview.

The event will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested in a career with Silfex are asked to visit silfexcareers.com.
