Joel D. Boyers, of Bellevue, Tennessee, was charged with public intoxication and possession of a firearm while intoxicated, WZTV reported. He is free on pretrial release.
According to an arrest affidavit, Boyers caused a disruption at the JW Marriott Hotel bar because he made several high-dollar tips, amounting to $22,000, that had waitresses competing to serve him, the Tennessean reported.
According to affidavit, friends of Boyers called police after receiving texts from him about taking drugs that “increased his intelligence,” the newspaper reported. Boyers also told friends he was carrying a gun, the affidavit said.
"He also made bizarre statements about giving away his child on Facebook," the Tennessean reported, citing Boyers' arrest affidavit.
Police said Boyers admitted to drinking all day, smoking marijuana and carrying a weapon, which was located in his right front pants pocket, the newspaper reported.
According to police, hotel records showed Boyers had bought more than a dozen drinks from the minibar in his hotel room and had two more drinks at the hotel bar, WZTV reported.
Boyers is due in court next month, the television station reported.
