The increase in demand for diesel is expected to hike its cost, and jet fuel is likely to follow, according to the Wall Street Journal. The degree of price increase for jet fuel will depend on how much demand for diesel increases, as shipowners have other options to clean up emissions aside from switching fuels.

Jet fuel has already become a major budgets strainer for airlines, rising more than 40 percent this year. To make up for the costs, airlines have started charging extra for checked bags and are starting to look at building planes with smaller restrooms and seats.
The airlines haven’t jacked up the costs drastically yet, as airlines had already booked their flights for the busy season anyway when fuel prices started their climb.
