Pepsi will soon have a new way to get into your home while offering what’s been called a healthier option for drinking water.
The company announced Monday that it will acquire SodaStream, a company whose products turn normal tap water into flavored sparkling water, for $3.2 billion.
“Today marks an important milestone in the SodaStream journey. It is validation of our mission to bring healthy, convenient and environmentally friendly beverage solutions to consumers around the world,” said Daniel Birnbaum, SodaStream CEO and director. “We are honored to be chosen as PepsiCo’s beachhead for at home preparation to empower consumers around the world with additional choices.”
The partnership is expected to help SodaStream grow via Pepsi’s distribution capabilities and global reach.
Pepsi traditionally has a large presence in the Dayton area. In October, the company announced that it would consolidate two distribution centers in Dayton and Spingfield into one Fairborn facility. In 2014, the Milburn Avenue facility in Dayton also stopped its canning operations.
“PepsiCo and SodaStream are an inspired match,” said PepsiCo chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi. “Daniel and his leadership team have built an extraordinary company that is offering consumers the ability to make great-tasting beverages while reducing the amount of waste generated.”
The deal is expected to close in January 2019.
