Odd cloud over the area not hazardous

Funnel Clouds in the Miami Valley?

That would be a big “No,” says StormCenter 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell.

But he admits there are some strange cloud formations today. He said the clouds are not a cold air funnel or a scud cloud, but are likely being created by rising, moist air that is condensing into clouds as it rises.

“There is also some wind shear at cloud level which is causing the ‘spin’ you see in the picture,” Elwell said. “However, this spin is not associated with storms nor is it dangerous. But it certainly makes for an interesting and ominous looking sky!”

Elwell said the area’s threat for strong storms will not arrive until Friday morning.
