Woman poses as landlady, takes rent money, police say

A North Carolina woman is in trouble with the law after police said she took thousands of dollars from potential renters.

Deborah Lynn Kingsley was being evicted last year from a Frederick, North Carolina, year, police said.

When she found out that she was being evicted, she advertised rooms for rent on Craigslist, saying that she was the owner and landlady, The Frederick News-Post reported.

Police said she took more than $4,000 in rent and security deposits from five men over the course of two months. 

They were all evicted from the property last July, when the men found out that Kingsley wasn't the owner, The Frederick News-Post reported.

She was charged this week with various counts of theft.
