Why your Kraft mac and cheese may look different


A staple of many childhoods could be getting a new look.

Kraft says it is giving its popular boxed macaroni and cheese a facelift, with the food maker dropping artificial colors and preservatives from the item, USA Today reports.

Starting in January 2016, the Regular Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner will join its organic iteration in drawing coloring from a variety of spices, Kraft said on its website.

A Kraft spokeswoman told Fortune the changes came in response to customers' calls for better nutrition and "simpler ingredients."

Many other food companies have dropped artificial colors and preservatives, including Frito-Lay, USA Today reports.
