Who is Scooter Braun, the man who bought Taylor Swift’s master recordings?

Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings agreed Sunday to acquire Big Machine Label Group for more than $300 million. The deal includes rights to Taylor Swift's six albums, dating back to her 2006 self-titled debut, that were recorded under BMLG.

According to a lengthy Tumblr post from Swift, she only became aware of the purchase when the rest of the world did. She called the discovery a "worst case scenario" and accused Braun of years of manipulation and bullying. Braun's wife, Yael Cohen Baun, has defended her husband, saying he "spent his life standing up for people and causes he believes in."

So, who is Scooter Braun? Here are five things to know about the music mogul:

1. Scooter isn't his real name.

His name is Scott Samuel Braun.

2. He was born in New York City. 

He moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University, where he also began his career.

3. Braun started his career while attending Emory.

The New York native started organizing parties at Emory as a teenager. He was eventually hired to plan the after-parties on Ludacris and Eminem’s Anger Management Tour. This led him to meet producer Jermaine Dupri, who hired Braun. At 19 years old, Braun became executive director for marketing at So So Def Records.

4. In 2007, Braun established SB Projects.

The "diversified entertainment and media company with ventures integrating music, film, television, technology and philanthropy" helped nurture the careers of several superstars. According to SB Projects' website, the company has worked with Ariana Grande, Asher Roth, Black Eyed Peas, Dan + Shay, David Guetta, Hilary Duff, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Karlie Kloss, Lil Dicky, Martin Garrix, PSY, Tori Kelly, Usher and more.

5. He is married with three children.

Braun is married to Yael Cohen, founder of an early cancer detection organization. They have three children: Jagger Joseph, Levi Magnus and Hart Violet.
