Nearly two weeks after he was injured in a deadly shooting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, college student Drew Pescaro took his first steps without a walker.

“Update: Day 13, took my first steps without a walker today, so I felt the need to share it with everyone,” the 19-year-old wrote Monday in a Twitter post in which he also shared footage of his walk.

The 21-second video shows Pescaro walking down a hospital hallway while he's helped along by a hospital staff member. The video had been viewed more than 25,000 times by Tuesday morning.

On Twitter, Pescaro said he's had at least two surgeries while he's been hospitalized. His hospital visitors have included UNCC alumnus and Cleveland Browns player Larry Ogunjobi, representatives of the Charlotte Hornets, and Carolina Panthers players Chris Hogan and D.J. Moore.

Pescaro was one of six students shot April 30 in a UNCC classroom. Two of those students – identified as 21-year-old Riley Howell and 19-year-old Ellis “Reed” Parlier – died. The other students wounded in the attack were identified as Rami Alramadhan, 20; Sean Dehart, 20; and Emily Houpt, 23.

Authorities arrested a former student, 22-year-old Trystan Andrew Terrell, after the attack. A grand jury subsequently indicted him on two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm on educational property and discharging a firearm on educational property.
