Bertha is a Bronze Star recipient and was honored for her service over the Veterans Day weekend, WPXI reported.
According to her military records, Bertha was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Pittsburgh. She enlisted in the Army during World War II on July 15, 1942.

She is also familiar with sports. Her late husband, Paul Bertha, who died in 1994, was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1979 for his work as a football, baseball and basketball official at the high school and college levels.
The Penguins did their part to pay tribute to Elva Bertha, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in a shootout.
