In an effort to lure employees to live in Kansas' capital, Topeka city leaders are offering up to $15,000 to move there.

The Choose Topeka program will pay $10,000 to people who move to the area and rent; and $15,000 to those who buy a home and set up primary residence, the Kansas City Star reported.

"Choose Topeka was created with the intention of investing in employees to live and work in Topeka and Shawnee County, so that we may foster an 'intentional community,' one of community support builders," Barbara Stapleton, with Go Topeka, an economic development group and a sponsor of the program, told KDVR.

Go Topeka, which is part of the city's Joint Economic Development Organization, will split the costs for the incentives with employers, the Star reported.
