While Kaine has been on the national stage before (see number 9), here are a few things to know about the U.S. Senator from Virginia.
Timothy Michael Kaine, 58, U.S. Senator representing Virginia
1. His family: He's married to Anne Holton who is the current secretary of education in Virginia. The couple have three children Nat, Woody and Annella. Kaine was raised in Kansas City as a Catholic by devout parents and attended an all-boys Jesuit high school.
2. He is familiar with public office: He has served as the mayor of Richmond (Va) 1998-2001; Virginia's lieutenant governor, 2002-2006; the governor of Virginia, 2006-2010 and Democratic National Committee chairman, 2009-2011. He was elected Senator in 2012.
3. A fun fact: Kaine was a mayor, a governor and a senator, and according to his office website, he's only one of 20 people in U.S. history to have held all three offices.
4. Habla usted español?: Kaine speaks fluent Spanish. He ran a technical school in Honduras for a year.
5. What's that sound: Kaine plays a mean harmonica. And when we say "mean" we mean bad – by his own account.
6. Is Virginia in play: Kaine's state – Virginia – just happens to be a swing state in the 2016 election. Virginia has traditionally been a "red state" or one that votes Republican in the general election. However, in the 2012 presidential election, President Obama won the state.

7. So, he's a little, well, boring: He calls himself boring, and, when Clinton was asked about him last week, she said boring was what she liked about him.
8. A spot on his record: Kaine did receive some bad publicity while he was lieutenant governor and governor. It was found he accepted more than $160,000 in gifts and travel, according to the Washington Post. The gifts included a Caribbean vacation and more than $5,000 in clothing, among other things. Taking those gifts was not a crime in Virginia.
9. No longer a bridesmaid: Kaine has been vetted for the position before. He was on a short list to be the running mate of President Obama in 2008.
