Young students are mourning after the loss of a kindergarten teacher at a North Mississippi school.
Sheronda Johnson, 32, collapsed in front of her class at Robinsonville Elementary. She was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in DeSoto, where she died.
The school brought in grief counselors to help students cope with the incident.
Family members said when Johnson collapsed in front of her kindergarten class, the principal responded and performed CPR until EMTs arrived.
“I pray that they will have people there that will help the kids and tell them that God is in control of everything that has happened,” Linda Smith, Johnson's aunt, said.
Smith said Johnson had worked at the school for two years.
“I believe she wanted to be a teacher because she loved children,” Smith said. “She used to work at the daycare because she loved kids.”
Johnson’s body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy. Family members said she had no prior history of medical issues.
