Starbucks barista learns sign language for deaf customer


A Leesburg, Virginia, Starbucks customer was pleasantly surprised by a cashier when he visited his local Starbucks on Friday.

Mashable reported that Ibby Piracha is a regular customer at Starbucks. He is also deaf.

When he came to the counter to order his drink, he said the barista signed in American Sign Language, "What you want to drink?"

"I am surprised she's learning sign language because I attend to Starbucks 3 times in a week," Piracha wrote in a Facebook post about the event.

The barista also wrote Piracha a note that said, "I've been learning ASL just so you can have the same experience as everyone else."

Piracha's post has been shared thousands of times, but he said he isn't famous.

"I just want hearing people to (learn) about deaf customers," he said.
