“I don’t want to admit it," said the caller, who identified himself as Anthony Lamar Gathers II. "I just killed my wife and my stepdaughter.”
Gathers, 38, of Goose Creek, was arrested at his home Nov. 11, WCSC reported. He was charged with two counts of murder, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and one count of death or injury of child in utero due to commission of a violent crime, WYFF reported.
Berkeley County Coroner George Oliver identified the victims as Lorice Gathers, 38, and Shanique Hills, 22, the television station reported.
Gathers can be heard in the 911 call apologizing to his young daughter, who was nearby, WCSC reported. He also told the dispatcher he was unarmed, having placed the knife he used on the front porch, the television station reported.
“Please tell them just put me in handcuffs and don’t draw any weapons,” Gathers said on the call. “I’m unarmed. I admit to this.”
According to court records, the stabbings took place after Gathers discovered text messages between his wife and her ex-boyfriend, WCSC reported.
Deputies responding after the 911 call at 5:03 a.m. said they discovered both victims in the driveway of the home. Hills was taken to an area hospital, where doctors determined she was 20 weeks pregnant, the television station reported. The unborn child died in the incident.
