But getting soaked -- really soaked -- for buying a beer is too much.
A walking vendor at Sunday's game in Miami is accused of charging a fan $724 for two beers, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Nathaniel Thomas Collier, 33, was charged with third-degree grand theft and possession of a skimming device, according to an arrest affidavit. He was fired after Sunday's game by Rocket Man, the company that employs vendors at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the Miami Herald reported.
According to an arrest affidavit, the victim ordered two beers from Collier during the Dolphins' 30-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The victim handed Collier his credit card to pay for the beverages, but police said Collier used his personal card reader and charged the fan $724, WPLG reported.
Moments after the transaction, the victim received a fraud alert from his bank. In addition to the amount, the bank also displayed the vendor's name, the Herald reported.
Collier was taken into custody by police who said the vendor had a Square credit card reader in his possession, WPLG reported.
The fan received a full refund, Rocket Man, a Kentucky-based subcontractor of walking vendors said in a statement.
“As the chosen provider of walking vendors across dozens of stadiums, we take the matter of security extremely seriously, and train and monitor our vendors to safeguard our customers,” Rocket Man officials said. “Our onsite supervisor contacted the authorities immediately upon learning of the overcharge on what was Mr. Collier’s unauthorized personal device.”
Collier remains in custody in lieu of a $10,000 bond, the Herald reported.
