Several dead, over 20 injured after bus collides with tractor trailer in Florida

At least five people were killed and 24 were injured when a bus and tractor trailer collided on a highway in the Florida Panhandle. Several of the injured are in critical condition.

Florida Highway Patrol Capt. Jeffrey Bissainthe said the bus, which was coming from Georgia, was carrying between 30 and 35 passengers.

The bus caught fire after it failed to stop at a red light and crashed into a tractor trailer, Wakulla County Sheriff's Office told The Associated Press.

First responders pulled out as many passengers as possible before the bus was fully engulfed in flames.

Both vehicles are a total loss, according to officials.

WCTV reports the driver of the tractor trailer was 55-year-old Gordon A. Sheets and the driver of the bus was 56-year-old Elie Dupiche, of Belle Glade, Florida.

According to WCTV, the bus was carrying workers who were going to start a job in Florida.

The accident scene was strewn with bloody medical gear, clothing and coolers packed with food, according to The Tallahassee Democrat.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
