Public asked to attend funeral of Florida veteran who had no living family

Commissioners in Baker County, Florida, are asking the public to help honor a U.S. Army veteran by attending his funeral at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.

Michael Allevato, a resident of Baker County, died in October 2017 and had no living family members, officials said.

Without any family, Allevato was cremated through the Baker County Indigent Cremation Program.

"Working with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Jacksonville National Cemetery, Mr. Allevato will finally have a resting place that he deserves," the Board of County Commissioners said in a Facebook post.

His service, provided by the Baker County Veterans Council, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Road. Anyone is welcome to attend.
