As Kimberly Richardson lay dying from a gunshot wound, she dialed 911. "Help, I've been shot," she gasped. The dispatcher asked Richardson for her location, "Party City, behind Triangle Town Center mall," she replied.

Struggling to breathe, Richardson, who was six-months pregnant, told the dispatcher, "I can't, I can't talk, he shot me.”

WNCN reports after more than 30 seconds of silence, sirens are heard approaching the scene. First responders rushed Richardson to the hospital where an emergency cesarean section saved her daughter's life.

They couldn’t do the same for Kimberly, who died shortly after.

Police arrested Richardson's boyfriend Daniel Steele on charges of first-degree murder. Friend Katy Wester told WRAL she was shocked. "He appeared to be a very nice guy," she said of Steele. "I never would have thought he would have turned into a murderer."

Richardson's friend Cara Troms told The News and Observer in Raleigh that Richardson was "so uplifting and a real advocate for Christ throughout everything she did."

“She was so excited to be a mom,” Troms went on. “And could not wait to meet her daughter.”

Steele is being held without bond.
