Authorities grappled with that problem Monday night, as several crates of priority mail were scattered across a Texas highway, KTRK reported.

Drivers spotted the packages and crates about a mile apart in the city of Splendora and said they fell from the back of a U.S. Postal Service truck, KHOU reported. The crates overturned after hitting the freeway and spilled the packages onto the road, the television station reported.

Postal service officials were alerted, KTRK reported. According to the television station, police reloaded the mail into containers and loaded them into a truck.

Postal customers who believe they have mail that has been lost or damaged can submit a claim online for compensation to the USPS. You can also call 800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) to have a claim form mailed, KTRK reported.
