Patriots running back Jeremy Hill is reportedly out for the season after tearing his ACL in the team's season opener.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the news on Monday, saying Hill's injury would put him out for the rest of the year.

The running back injured his knee following a Rob Gronkowski fumble in the third quarter, and left the game before being ruled out.

Hill ran for 25 yards on four carries on Sunday in his regular season debut with the Patriots, with one catch for six yards to add to his stat line.

The Patriots signed Hill in free agency in March, adding to a running back corps that includes Rex Burkhead, James White and Sony Michel.

The Patriots will visit Jacksonville Sunday in a rematch of the Jan. 21 AFC championship game New England won 24-20 to reach the Super Bowl for the third time in four years.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
