A man in New Mexico intent on displaying American pride 365 days a year embarked on a striking home improvement project that has the whole neighborhood talking.
Rick Gabaldon told KOB that he came up with the idea of transforming the roof of his house into an American flag about two years ago. The red, white and blue roof is nearing completion, and has taken about a month to build. Gabaldon says the stars on the roof will be made of a special material that will glow at night.
Gabaldon's neighbors were "freaked out" at first when they heard about the patriotic roof project, KOB reported, but have come to a mutual understanding. Gabaldon's father served in the military and the roof is the family's way of showing their thanks to veterans and pride for their country.
