Shawn Rauch found the necklace Sunday evening in Siesta Key, he said in a Facebook post. The necklace is silver with a circular pendant that has "Mom" engraved on it.
Rauch asked for help returning the necklace to its rightful owner in the post. As of Tuesday afternoon, the post had been shared more than 1,000 times.
Rauch told WFLA-TV that in the six years he's been metal detecting, he's never found a necklace containing ashes.
Anyone who recognizes the necklace can contact Rauch via his Facebook page.
