Man charged with 100 counts of 1st-degree rape in child sex assault case

A central Louisiana man is facing 100 first-degree rape charges after authorities said he sexually assaulted children in the 1970s and '80s.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested Harvey Joseph Fountain, 71, of Pineville, last week in connection with an April 1 complaint accusing him of "possible criminal sexual conduct involving juveniles" years ago.

Fountain was initially charged with 50 counts of rape, but that number doubled after investigators identified more victims, the Sheriff's Office said. Each victim was under 13 years old, authorities told CNN.

Fountain is being held on $1 million bond, BuzzFeed reported.

Investigators are encouraging anyone with information about Fountain's alleged crimes to call the Sheriff's Office at 318-473-6700 or Crime Stoppers at 318-443-7867.
