Louisiana school board bans fidget spinners

Calling them a distraction, a school board in Louisiana banned fidget spinners beginning next school year, KALB reported.

Rapides Parish School board members voted to ban the toy at its Wednesday meeting. The small plastic and metal spinners are already prohibited in many schools nationwide because they distract students, and the Rapides board agreed.

“Some people were getting them just to play with them and that was a problem,” board member Sandra Franklin told KALB. “So, they want to make sure that we are doing it for the right reasons.

The toy is popular with children. Manufacturers claim they help children to alleviate symptoms of ADHD, autism or hyperactivity.
