In 2012, Zimmerman, a Sanford, Fla. neighborhood watch volunteer, fatally shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager who was visiting his father in the gated community. Zimmerman was acquitted of murder charges in a highly controversial case that polarized the nation.
Since the verdict, Zimmerman has had multiple brushes with the law. In the Univision interview, Zimmerman says he is unable to lead a normal life, and has to don a bulletproof vest whenever he goes out. He claims to have developed post traumatic stress disorder from the constant public scrutiny. Zimmerman admits that while his family helps him, he is currently homeless.
