An employee of the Zimmer Tractor store in Greendale, Indiana, told responding officers a man and woman appeared to be using narcotics while sitting in a parked black vehicle. The employee told authorities the woman, later identified as Wright, appeared to be fashioning a tourniquet commonly used for narcotics injections, the station reported.
According to the Indianapolis Star, responding officers witnessed Wright making "furtive movements" and found a handgun in the passenger side door with a full magazine and one round in the chamber. She is not currently facing a firearms charge.
The Metropolitan School District of Warren Township released the following statement regarding Wright’s arrest:
“We have been made aware of the criminal charges involving Michelle Wright. She is an elected member of the school board and we are monitoring the legal process closely. We will take appropriate action as permitted by law to respond to this situation and demonstrate our commitment to provide the best educational experience for the kids and families we serve.”
A school board spokesperson told the Star that if a board member is convicted of a felony, they are automatically removed from their position.
