Ikea recalls 80,000 baby gates for fall hazard

The locking mechanism on an Ikea baby gate can open unexpectedly posing a hazard and has been recalled by the company.

Consumers should immediately stop using the Patrull, Patrull Fast and Patrull Klamma safety gate and gate extensions and return them to Ikea for a refund. The gates and accessories were sold from August 1995 to June 2016 for between $10 and $60.

About 80,000 of the Patrull Klamma safety gates were sold in the United States. Another 28,000 were sold in Canada.

Ikea received 55 incident reports regarding the gate's safety worldwide, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. These include 10 injuries that resulted in concussions, cuts and bruises.
