Doctors at Emory University Hospital in Midtown Atlanta can now perform breast cancer surgery and radiation in one day.
After surgeons remove a tumor, the medical team members work together to use a targeted radiation machine on the problem area.
A local woman is on a fast track to recovery because of the groundbreaking procedure. A camera crew spoke with Anita Warrington before her surgery. She said the one-day treatment is a phenomenal option.
"I walk in, prayer each day, and ever since I have been diagnosed, I have been very relieved because I know that I'm in good hands all the way,” said Warrington, who is now recovering at home.
Now that the first surgery at the hospital was a success, doctors have more of the procedures scheduled for the next few weeks.
The treatment is only available to women in early stages of cancer or with slow-growing tumors.
