General Mills recalls Betty Crocker cake mix over E. coli risk

Have a sweet tooth? You should probably check your pantry.

The Associated Press reports that General Mills has issued a recall for two types of Betty Crocker cake mix in the United States and one type in Canada over possible E. coli contamination.

The U.S. recall includes boxes of Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Party Rainbow Chip Cake Mix marked with UPC 000-16000-40997 and "best by" dates of 25MAR2017, 28MAR2017, 27APR2017, 28APR2017, 23MAY2017, 24MAY2017 and 25MAY2017. Boxes of Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Carrot Cake Mix with UPC 000-16000-40987 and "best by" dates of 12APR2017, 13APR2017, 14APR2017, 28MAY2017, 29MAY2017, 30MAY2017, 07JUL2017 and 08JUL2017 also are being recalled.
The Canadian recall is for Betty Crocker Super Moist Rainbow Bit Cake Mix with UPC 000-65633-46589 and "best by" dates of 27AL2017, 08JN2017 and 09JN2017.

According to General Mills' website, one of its suppliers "used Wondra flour implicated in the July 1, 2016, recall to manufacture the flavor chips" used in the affected Betty Crocker products.

The recalled items could contain E. coli 0121, "a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration," General Mills says on its website. If you have any of the recalled products, do not use them, the company says.
