Front-loading washer settlement may mean money for consumers

Cash may be on its way to your wallet if you own certain brands and models of front loading washing machines that have a tendency to get moldy.

A settlement was reached earlier this year on class action lawsuits involving Whirlpool, Maytag and Kenmore front loader machines, Consumer Reports reported. LG also was part of a separate suit.

If you have a front-loading machine made between 2001 and 2010, could get a reimbursement of up to $500 for repairs or replacement of the machine due to mold or odors.

The lawsuits against Whirlpool said that front-loading machine didn't clean itself enough to prevent mold or mildew buildup.

If your machine is on the settlement list, but didn't have mold or odor problems with the machine, you could qualify for $50 or a 20 percent rebate off the purchase of a new machine, according to Consumer Reports.

To submit a claim for a Whirlpool, Kenmore or Maytag machine, you must file the claim by Oct. 11. It can be mailed, postmarked by the Oct. 11 deadline, or filed online.

For LG models, the deadline is Oct. 10. Click here for the LG form.
