Jorel Fountain was driving toward Fort Walton Beach around 8 a.m. when he came across the bogus bucks. He turned around and stopped to inspect them, Northwest Florida Daily News reported.
"It looked real, except there wasn't a Benjamin Franklin in the right-hand corner," Fountain told the Daily News. "On the back, there was a Japanese stamp, but it was so faint that you couldn't really see it."
Fountain said there was what appeared to be about 10,000 of the bills on the ground. He grabbed nine of them and called the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office to report the funny money, the Daily News reported.
Other people had also reported the phony bills, Michele Nicholson, sheriff's spokeswoman, told the Daily News.
A deputy arrived at the scene around 8:23 a.m. but all the fake money was gone.
