A Florida man was found dead hours after authorities said he jumped into rough waters to save his wife, who was struggling to stay afloat.
Norman Diggs III, 33, leapt into Lake George in Volusia County, just outside of Orlando on Sunday afternoon after his wife, Sara, 37, was having trouble keeping afloat, according to a report from the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Gary O’Brien, a family friend, was on a nearby boat and jumped in after he heard the Leesburg couple yelling for help.
The News-Journal reported O’Brien was able to get Sara Diggs to safety, but was unable to reach Norman Diggs, whose body was found around 7:30 p.m. or five hours after the incident occurred. The couple and three children were travelling by boat from Silver Glen to Astor when the tragedy occurred, the News-Journal added.
The conditions were windy, and Norman Diggs III was not wearing a life jacket when he tried to save his wife.
