Victor Van Vickery, 30, of Delray Beach, was arrested Thursday and charged with manslaughter in the July 2, 2018, incident, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, WPLG reported.
According to police, Vickery was being intimate with his girlfriend at her Fort Lauderdale residence when the couple heard "a scratching on the window" outside the home about 11:46 p.m., the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Samantha Hobi called the police, who responded to the scene. They found Asaad Akar, 57, bloodied and unconscious on the ground, the newspaper reported. Akar was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead early Saturday morning, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
A medical examiner ruled Akar died from blunt trauma injury to his head and torso, according to the newspaper.
According to the police report, Vickery said he found Akar exposing himself while looking into the bedroom window of his girlfriend's home, WPLG reported. The two men then got into a fight, the television station reported.
Vickery and Hobi voluntarily gave statements to the police, According to the Sun-Sentinel. According to the police report. Vickery said Akar lunged at him and began choking him. Vickery said he punched Akar "a handful of times," according to the report.
Originally, Hobi told police she hit Akar in the back with a shovel, the Sun-Sentinel reported. On July 23, Hobi recanted that statement and said she never touched Akar, according to the police report.
Before his arrest last week Vickery was free on a $75,000 bond, awaiting trial on a felony sex battery case stemming from an Aug. 15, 2018, incident, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
The name of the victim in that case is redacted from the Fort Lauderdale police report, the newspaper reported.
