A Louisiana high school student took three photographs of an emotional moment between her 9-year-old sister and her "boyfriend" as they embraced for the last time after a dance recital, WABC reported. The high school student tweeted all three photos on Monday night and the heart-tugging images have gone viral.
The boy's father, Glen Meynardie, a dance teacher who is moving his family to California, said on Twitter that the two friends, both 9, grew up together. They playfully call themselves boyfriend and girlfriend, Yahoo! Beauty reported.
Merce and Mylee, “go waaaaaay back,” Meynardie tweeted. “(They) have been BFF since they could walk.”
The two children are wearing the same shirts because that was their costume at the recital, Meynardie explained on Twitter.
The emotional parting has been liked by more than 186,000 Twitter users and retweeted more than 56,000 times.
