A Canadian man is facing charges after authorities discovered a toddler illegally strapped into a vehicle during a traffic stop.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police found the unidentified 22-year-old driver using a case of beer as a booster seat for a 2-year-old when they pulled the vehicle over early Tuesday morning in Waterloo, according to a social media post from OPP.

The child was unharmed but the driver is charged with failing to ensure a child is properly secured, police said.

The officers provided a proper booster seat for the driver and notified Family and Children's Services about the incident, Canadian broadcaster CP24 reported.

Under Ontario law, children under 40 pounds are required to ride in a child seat and those under 8 years old must be in a booster seat when in a moving vehicle.
