Customers stop armed robbery at North Carolina Waffle House

A robbery at a North Carolina Waffle House was thwarted by customers Saturday.

Police said a man tried to rob a Fayetteville, North Carolina, Waffle House with an AK-47 style rifle.

A Fayetteville Police Department news release said a man entered the restaurant and pointed the rifle at employees and demanded money around 5:20 a.m, according to The Fayetteville Observer.

A customer approached the man, and there was a struggle.

Other patrons chased the would-be robber from the restaurant.

Police said the man was last seen jumping a fence.

The local Waffle House said employees are not allowed to talk with reporters.

Waffle House spokeswoman Kelly Thrasher-Bruner said Waffle House officials are working with authorities on the investigation.
