Couple shares powerful side-by-side pregnancy photos

It's a striking image that forces you to do a double take.

Yes, they're both pregnant, but about a year apart.

Vanessa Iris Roy is pregnant in the first photo, and her wife, Melissa, is pregnant in the second and joined by their son Jax.

The photo, captioned "trading places" was posted by the couple two months ago, but didn't hit viral status until several LGBT-focused sites picked up the portrait.

The couple says they've been blown away by the outpouring of attention and support.

"It's crazy to see that people were referring to my family as an inspiration," Melanie told The Huffington Post. "We are still in complete shock."

Their daughter, Ero, was born earlier this year to Melissa.

The couple said they always knew they would both like to carry their children, so they shared the task.

"The woman's body is incredible,"  Melanie told The Huffington Post. "The way it creates and grows another human being is amazing. We hope that our picture is that sign that some women may need to encourage them to carry a child."
