Coronavirus: Carnival Corp. ship anchored in Italy with nearly 7,000 on board after virus scare

A scare over the coronavirus had nearly 7,000 people trapped on a Carnival Corp.-owned ship on the coast of Italy.

But reports out of Italy say the couple at the center of the scare has tested negative for the virus, The Guardian reported.

A female passenger showed symptoms of the virus, including fever and respiratory issues, officials with the Italian Coast Guard said, according to Bloomberg. She was put in isolation on the Costa Smeralda and the ship was docked in Civitavecchia, Italy.

The woman's husband was also tested for the virus, CNN reported.

Passengers on board the ship arrived in the Italian town from Palma de Majorca, Spain, during a voyage of the western Mediterranean, CNN reported.

There are about 6,000 passengers and another 1,000 crew members on board the ship, with about 750 passengers coming from China, Bloomberg reported.
