Officials from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police apologized after a news conference, which was being livestreamed on Facebook, showed a cat filter while Sgt. Janelle Shoihet provided details of a double homicide, the Daily Hive reported. The filter showed Shoihet with cat ears and whiskers, according to HuffPost.

The sergeant was providing an update about the murders of Chynna Noelle Deese, 24, of Charlotte, and her boyfriend, Lucas Robertson Fowler, 23, of Australia. The couple was found July 15, fatally shot on a remote western Canadian highway near their broken-down van, WSOC-TV reported.

Deese and Fowler, who met overseas, were planning to tour Canada's national parks together, The Washington Post reported.

An RCMP spokesman apologized in a Twitter response for what was termed "technical difficulties" and said an "automatic setting" on Facebook Live had been switched, HuffPost reported.

A new version of the news conference was posted without the feline features, the Daily Hive reported.
