Boy calls 911 when he loses teddy bear, police come to rescue

You know you call 911 when there’s an emergency. Kids are told that over and over, but not all emergencies are the same.

Ryan Paul called the emergency line when he lost his beloved teddy bear, WPIX reported.

“My teddy bear fell down again. Don’t worry I’ll rescue you again. Goodbye again. See you again,” Ryan, 12, can be heard on the 911 call.

Ryan has autism.

Emergency responders called back, and his dad told them what had happened and there was no emergency.

But police usually respond to hang-up emergency calls, so Officer Khari Manzini, a rookie on the Woodbridge Township force, arrived. Manzini had specialized training for cases like Ryan. He was trained by POAC Autism Services, according to WPIX.

Manzini helped Ryan find the bear, who had fallen from the side of his bed.

"We found the teddy bear. The teddy bear was OK. He is in safe hands. No injuries, nothing like that," Manzini told WABC.

Manzini also explained to Ryan what a real emergency was, WPIX reported. Ryan got a few pictures with his new hero, WABC reported.
