3 assisted living employees arrested for setting up alleged 'fight club' among residents

Three women who worked at a North Carolina assisted living facility have been arrested after reportedly encouraging residents of the facility to fight.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported the women also assaulted people with disabilities at Danby House. An investigation by police and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Resources found at least one employee assaulted a resident by shoving them.

"When you're talking about someone who can't take care of themselves, we've got to give specific attention to that," Lt. Dorn, with the Winston-Salem Police Department, told WGHP.

Taneshia Deshawn Jordan, 26, was arrested on Oct. 2 on a charge of assaulting an individual with a disability. She was given a $1,500 bond.

Tonacia Yvonne Tyson, 20, was arrested on Oct. 3 on a charge of assaulting an individual with a disability. She was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Marilyn Latish McKey, 32, was arrested Oct. 10 on two counts of assaulting an individual with a disability. She was given a $1,000 bond.

Arrest documents say that in one incident Tyson recorded a fight between residents and encouraged them to fight. In another, Jordan is accused of seeing a co-worker assault a resident and did not report it, among other incidents involving the two women.

McKey is accused of recording herself pushing a female resident into a room. In another incident, she is accused of seeing two female residents fight and did not report it.

A spokesperson for Danby House said the women were fired in June.

"Danby House has a zero-tolerance policy for the mistreatment of those in our care and as such, McKey, Tyson, and Jordan were terminated immediately in June when community management was alerted to this situation," Danby House's parent company, Affinity Living, LLC, said in a statement, according to Winston-Salem Journal. "Administrators have been working closely with the Winston-Salem Police Department throughout its investigation to ensure justice is served. Additional staff training and a more rigorous vetting process for all new and existing employees at Danby House has been implemented.

"Danby House has undergone leadership changes in recent months, and we look at situations like these as opportunities to improve upon the high standard of care we provide for our residents.”
