Ohio Sen. Portman might oppose bill to keep Trump from firing Mueller

In an interview today on CNN, Portman said “the president has the constitutional right to be able to hire and fire people who work for him. As my lawyers have looked at the legislation….they believe it is not consistent with that constitutional right.”

“It doesn’t mean that the president should do it,” Portman said of firing Mueller. “He should not. But I don’t think that there is an easy for Congress as a legislative branch to step in between the president and an executive branch employee.”
