Hospital Compare allows hospitals to submit quality reports into a state-wide database comparing more than 190 hospitals in clinical and customer satisfaction area. The site debuted Jan. 1 with 2008 data.
Springfield Regional submitted correct clinical data but incorrect customer satisfaction data, hospital CEO Mark Wiener said last week.
“The short answer is we made a mistake,” he said. “Unfortunately we didn’t learn about that until after the data was published.”
Bob Campbell, who oversees the data gathering for the ODH, said Springfield was among a handful of hospitals that submitted incorrect information. ODH officials considered allowing hospitals to submit changes but decided it would be too time- and labor-intensive to contact each of the 194 hospitals, especially as hospitals will begin submitting new data this month for the July update.
The ODH has posted a disclaimer on its home page notifying consumers that some of the data could be incorrect.
