Venus and Jupiter visible tonight, near the moon

If you missed the Perseid meteor shower over the weekend, no fear, the moon will guide you to two planets this week.

In the evening hours, after sunset around 8:30 p.m., head outside and look west/southwest. As the sun sets this week, Venus and Jupiter will follow. The darker the sky gets, the easier it will be to see the two.

The moon will be closest to Jupiter tonight. The window to catch them before they drop below the horizon is small because Venus sets around 10 p.m. and Jupiter around midnight.

A bonus planet to look for is Mars. It sets around sunrise in the west and has a reddish tint to it.
