LATEST: Tornadoes rip through Miami Valley
The National Weather Service in Chicago reported just after 5:30 p.m. EDT that spotters confirmed a tornado touch-down about 30 miles southeast of Chicago, near the Illinois-Indiana line.
The storm system marched east, with WANE.com in Fort Wayne, Ind., receiving reports of close to a dozen tornado sightings between 7:45 and 9:45 p.m., many of them near Akron and Wabash, Ind., west of Fort Wayne.

Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs was on WHIO’s airwaves before 11 p.m., tracking the storms town by town as they came from the Richmond, Ind., area into Ohio.
After the storm system produced heavy damage in the Celina, Trotwood, Vandalia, Riverside and Beavercreek areas, it continued to the east.
Preliminary reports from the Logan Elm area, just south of Circleville, said power lines were down near U.S. 23 and some trucks were damaged at a Love’s truck stop.
