Springfield City Commission to hear plan for Code Blue incentives

The Springfield City Commission has been working with Code Blue on an employee incentive agreement, which could send some of the income tax generated from the companies 169 new jobs back to the company so it can continue to expand.

Tom Franzen, Assistant City Manager and Director of Economic Development, said the plan calls for 50 percent of net new income tax over five years to go back to the company.

“We have employed this with several other companies as an incentive for companies to bring new jobs to the city,” Franzen said.

Franzen said the commission will hear a first reading of the employee incentive agreement on Tuesday.

“There will be a vote on it in two weeks,” Franzen said.

Paul Gross, Code Blue founder, said the company — a water mitigation firm that manages claims nationwide — has been working with the city for a couple of months now on forming an incentive plan that works for both parties.

“The City of Springfield consistently makes an effort to bring business into the city and standardized incentive packages encourage the creation of new jobs,” Gross said.

Gross said the commission has been very proactive about helping Code Blue continue to grow.

“I think they have been very proactive and responsive about wanting to build a strong economic environment and community jobs are a great way to simulate that,” Gross said.

Code Blue announced in early April they are hiring for 169 new positions at the company’s downtown Springfield office.

The job additions are a result of transformations the company has undergone since Gross and CEO Dan Wilson purchased the company in February of last year, Gross said previously.
