Weather related power outages reported in Logan and Clark Counties

UPDATE @ 9:54 p.m.:

The top of a pole was struck by lightning, causing the second large outage that occurred at 7:22 p.m. in Bellefontaine.

Lightning damaged the pole and a transformer, causing 287 customers to lose power, Millhouse said.

Power was restored to all customers except one. Millhouse said crews are making final repairs and hopes to have power fully restored by midnight.

UPDATE @ 9:37 p.m.:

Approximately 86 customers are without power in Clark Co., 77 in Pleasant Township, according to the FirstEnergy outage map.

Trees and power lines are down in the 4200 block of Runyan Road, county dispatch has confirmed.

UPDATE @ 9:13 p.m.:

Two large outages affected two different parts of South Main Street in Bellefontaine within two minutes of each other, according to Director of Operations Kelly Millhouse of DP&L.

DP&L crews found blown fuses due to heavy lightening at the first outage reported at 7:20 p.m. in a predominately commercial area of town, Millhouse said.

All 373 customers have had their power restored except for one, said Millhouse.

The second outage occurred two minutes later at 7:22 p.m. and affected 287 customers in a predominantly residential area, according to Millhouse.

Multiple crews are currently patrolling the area of South Main Street near Cross Pointe Circle and South Detroit Street to determine the cause, Millhouse said.

Millhouse said it shouldn’t be too long for restoration but does not have an estimated time of restoration.

FIRST REPORT:

Nearly 373 customers were reported without power in the Bellefontaine area around 7:20 p.m. Monday, according to the DP&L Outage Map.

Logan County dispatchers said they believe the outages were weather related.

Estimated restoration time is currently reported to be midnight, according to the DP&L Outage Map.
